African
Tribe Girl
Picture
The African tribe girl in the above picture can be identified as
unmarried due to the absence of leather hair ornaments and a conch shell
that normally hangs between the breasts of married women. African tribe
girls are often responsible for many of the less desirable chores such as
hauling water and tending animals such as cattle and goats. The African
tribe girl in the above photograph is tending cattle. Many of the more
traditional African tribal people are pastoralists living in arid or desert
lands. The reason that African natives living on desert lands have managed
to remain traditional is because their land is less valuable and therefore,
less likely to be coveted by colonialists and farmers who typically seek
more productive lands. The lesser value of arid lands has resulted in a
lower degree of cultural degradation caused by outsiders of African tribal people
living in the deserts. |
